Elizabeth Taylor McTurk

ELIZABETH TAYLOR MCTURK, was born in 1920 and died in September 2001 at  Ayr. The only child of Hugh McTurk and Mary Kirby.

Elizabeth or Betty was born in 21 Mcalls Avenue, Newton on Ayr and was christened over her mothers coffin. She was brought up by her Aunt Chrissie who I presume to be Christina Kirby. Certainly she lived in Whittlets, Ayr.

She taught herself Russian and went to London. She tried to work for the Russian Embassy but was turned down as being too young and vulnerable, She then worked for the American Sector and joined the American forces displaced persons and travelled all over the world.

She went to Canada . She stayed with Uncle Davy and Aunt Chrissie. She took a degree in Social work at McGill University. She loved Canada. She always said Canada was so beautiful better than Scotland. But she could not resist home. She moved back and bought 21 McCalls Avenue when her dad McTurk died.

She was very independent and latterly reclusive. She died in September 2001 following breast cancer
