Christina Walker Kirby CHRISTINA WALKER KIRBY was born on the 5th of May 1889 in Portland Street, Troon at 06:00AM (ref 590/2 49). She was the third of nine known children born to John Kirby and Elizabeth Taylor of Troon. Christina was named after her Grandmother, Christina Walker. The birth was registered on the 23rd of May 1889, by her mother Elizabeth Kirby, presumably because her father John, a Merchant Seaman was away at sea. At the time of Christina's birth she had an older brother, Henry Taylor Kirby aged 3½ and sister Lucy Elizabeth Kirby who would have been 2 years old. Again little is known about her early life although her brother Henry Taylor Kirby would have died when she was only 3 years old on the 1st of August 1892. Some tragedy must have befallen Christina when she died on the 9th of March 1893 in ? Hospital, Glasgow at 00.00 Midnight( Ref 1892 644/9 290.). The death was reported by her father, John Kirby, the Cause of Death being an Epileptic Convulsions following a fracture at the base of the skull. This must have led to an inquest and as yet it has not been ascertained what exactly happened. |
